Water Park & Bounce House SafetyPosted 8-14-2010To Our Valued Customers: Media attention has been drawn recently to purportedly excessive lead content in a few inflatables manufactured by a handful of companies. These charges appear directed at commercial rentals, and are absolutely not a reflection of the entire industry. In fact, Inflatables are safer, more affordable, and more exciting than ever. In the Midst of this attention, We are happy to assure you, Blast Zone is not included in these allegations. All Blast Zone products meet or exceed US and international laws and standards. We diligently adhere to rigorous testing standards to ensure a safe product for children. Our materials are tested frequently, and we have long-standing relationships with trusted suppliers, whom we audit for compliance. Blast Zone is committed to the safety of your children. While Blast Zone also produces Commercial Inflatables, our commercial vinyl meets or exceeds these same international toy standards for lead, phthalates, etc. (as outlined by ASTM, The Consumer Product Safety Commission and other applicable governing bodies.) Because Blast Zone products are carried by retailers worldwide, our products conform to the most stringent standards in order to meet the criteria of so many major distributors, who regularly verify compliance of Blast Zone products. We take pride in providing safe, fun, healthy toys for your children, which is our utmost goal. We will continue to show our commitment to safety by uploading additional testing reports on our materials on a regular basis. Below is a condensed version of one of our recent tests, demonstrating Blast Zone's contaminant free, safe product. Toy Safety – Finding Fun in the “Lead Age.”Bounce House Safety - Are bouncers safe? Note: Blast Zone bounce houses are lead and contaminant free, are manufactured using "Green Processes," and integrate numerous child safety measures. The below article is an "insider" snapshot of the current state of the toy industry. A toy industry insider recently told me his new favorite joke: “Did you hear (Major Toy Company) just came out with two new lines of toys? Leaded and unleaded?” While this joke may be funny to some, it’s not funny to two categories of people: parents and those working in the toy industry. While research shows that the amounts of lead required to cause harm to a child is astronomical in proportion to the amount in the recently recalled “contaminated” toys, damage has been done to the security levels of parents, and the public image of the toy industry. So what are these two groups of people to do? Simple: toy industry insiders have to increase and monitor safety, and parents have to find toys that are safe and trustworthy! As an “insider” myself, I can assure you that toy companies are up in arms, increasing safety and quality control measures. Our factories have always monitored ASTM and other material and safety specifications very closely, so we find ourselves in a precariously lucky position: there is a ton of empty shelf space demanding our safe toys! So, with all selfishness aside, there is a major move to promote safety across the industry. It’s really not China's fault. If there is any blame to be cast, it is for those responsible for testing and monitoring materials. At this point, however, there has been a major push from retailers to further monitor safety. Many of these huge box stores are requiring further testing, and requiring their manufacturers to certify products as lead-free, etc. So the damage has been done. Parents are concerned with the toys their children are playing with. So what do parents do? Find safe toys, that are still fun! So I’m going to get to the question at hand: “Are all bounce houses and inflatable toys safe for my child.” And the answer is…… NO! And “Why aren’t all bounce houses and inflatable toys safe for my kids?” For starters, the ASTM has very few, if any requirements relating to the home-use category of bounce houses. Couple this with the fact that there are numerous low-grade knock off inflatables being imported, material standards are becoming increasingly important. So, should you be scared? Put off from buying an inflatable? Head for the hills? Again the answer is “NO!” Why? Because kids LOVE bounce houses, because kids expend energy on bounce houses, because kids get healthy exercise on bounce houses, and because the RIGHT bounce house or inflatable toy is safe, fun and innovative. Quality inflatables can be safer than trampolines and jungle gyms, they’re affordable, and they’re easy to set up. So the real conclusion to be drawn is, “buy a quality inflatable, and you’re buying one of the safest, healthiest toys available.” For further information on how to buy quality inflatables (and of course why Blast Zone Inflatables are the best!), see our buying guide. In general, take the following advice, and HAVE A BLAST! 1) Only buy from reputable companies 2) Don’t hesitate to spend a few more dollars for quality. The few extra dollars are usually used for quality materials, and will get you a safer, more durable bounce house. 3) Look for bounce houses that are double and quadruple stitched. 4) Look for bouncers that incorporate safety netting 5) When evaluating a bouncer, use common sense! If it looks unsafe, it probably is! |
