A Safety Message from the CEO of KidKraft:
January 27, 2012
Dear Parents and Retailers,

At KidKraft, safety and quality are our top priorities. Over the past few years, as the children's products industry has undergone pivotal changes, KidKraft products remain compliant with all new laws and policies. KidKraft has employed third-party certified labs for many years to test our products and verify that they meet all applicable U.S. regulatory safety standards. Our testing program ensures that the products meet or exceed all federal and CPSIA requirements, including mechanical hazards, lead and other heavy metals, phthalates and flammability.
One new safety regulation that recently went into effect is the Illinois Lead Poisoning Prevention Act, which sets lead limits on any children’s product being sold in the state. KidKraft already meets these requirements and will continue doing so.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) ACTM 93120 requirement is a multi-step regulation that limits formaldehyde emissions in composite wood products being sold into California. CARB is currently in Phase 2, which is the last phase of the act, and KidKraft remains compliant with all products.
You have my commitment that KidKraft remains vigilant in ongoing testing and inspections to deliver the products you have come to trust.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Steven Z. Lampert
CEO

November 1, 2007 Letter from
Melissa & Doug products are carefully crafted and use non-toxic coatings. As indicated on all of our item packages, our products meet or exceed all U.S. toy testing standards.
Regarding the recent concerns over lead safety in toys, we definitely appreciate and understand your concern. Please be assured, we test for lead VERY frequently.
It's quite possible to make great quality children's items in China, which meet all safety regulations, but the key point is that you have to test and inspect very frequently to be sure that your factories are always following your instructions explicitly. We assure you that's exactly what we do.
From our experience, the key to doing this correctly is not simply to insist that your factories follow your instructions, but then to go one step further and to AUDIT, INSPECT, AND TEST very frequently. That is the most important part of the process, and it's something our company has always taken VERY seriously.
Thanks again for asking, and thanks for your support also.
Your Dedicated Customer Service Team

February 11, 2009
Dear Parents and Retailers:
At KidKraft, safety and quality are our top priorities. The children's products industry has undergone some pivotal changes in both safety and quality and KidKraft products remain compliant with all new laws and policies.

As you know, the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) went into effect for lead and phthalate limits on February 10, 2009. KidKraft has already taken action to guarantee that we meet these new safety requirements.

KidKraft has employed third-party certified labs for many years to test our products and see that they meet all applicable U.S. regulatory safety standards. Our testing program ensures that the products meet or exceed all requirements, including mechanical hazards, lead and other heavy metals, and flammability.

Also new this year is the California Air Resources Board (CARB) ACTM 93120 requirement that sets limits on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products being sold into California. Our suppliers have been notified about these limits in detail, and we are taking action to make certain CARB-compliant materials are in our supply chain for Phase I. As the CARB phases are implemented over the next four years, KidKraft’s products will comply each step of the way.

You have my commitment that KidKraft remains vigilant in ongoing testing and auditing to deliver products you have come to trust.

Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Steven Z. Lampert

LEE MIDDLETON DOLLS - Statement Regarding Product Testing
To All Concerned about Child Safety and Products the Youngsters Will Enjoy:
The associates of Middleton Doll are pleased to share with you today news on two fronts regarding the all-important, all-consuming subject matter of "testing." Testing in the real world, we believe, is conducted on two fronts:
1. By laboratories that test for compliance with safety standards, and
2. By children who conduct a quick out-of-the-box test to determine if a toy will be used (and quite possibly abused) on a frequent basis or relegated to some "dark neverland" (that is, a back corner of the closet or bottom layer of the toy box).
Regarding point 1 above, Middleton Doll is pleased to issue the following statement:
Lee Middleton Original Dolls, Inc. commenced development of play dolls to augment their adult collectible line almost a decade ago. Recognizing the legally mandated requirements to market products that will be used for play by young children, Middleton Doll Company contracted Specialized Technology Resources (STR) to evaluate safety and regulatory compliance for its product line.
STR is an independent, U.S.-based company that provides consumer products testing, inspection, auditing, and consulting services to major manufacturers, importers, and retailers around the world. Established in 1944, STR is headquartered in Enfield, Connecticut. In addition, STR has wholly-owned laboratories in Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, China, and India - as well as inspection offices in over 30 countries and five continents. Each laboratory has obtained and operates under the appropriate accreditation scheme for their country. The majority of testing of the Middleton Doll product line is performed at either STR's Hong Kong laboratory, which has HOKLAS accreditation, or their China laboratories, which have CNAL accreditation (China National Accreditation Board for Laboratories). To learn more about STR, one may visit their website www.strlab.com.
Testing of the Middleton Doll product is conducted in accordance with US Federal regulations as well as the toy industry's voluntary standard for toy safety, ASTM F963. Testing includes "Total Lead" content of all accessible surface coatings to ensure they comply with the requirements of 16 CFR 1303, and do not contain unacceptable amounts of lead. In addition, testing is also performed for presence of other heavy metals (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, mercury, selenium) per the voluntary toy safety standard. In addition to the chemical testing as described, Middleton Doll product is further evaluated for mechanical safety. This process ensures there are no hazardous conditions both before and/or after use and abuse (intended to simulate foreseeable child maltreatment). Finally, tests are performed to determine if there are potential violations of flammability standards.
Middleton Doll is proud of its safety record and has not purveyed product requiring a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall. We are committed to ensuring safe product through the diligent pursuit of appropriate design and manufacturing testing.
Not sure I need to say more here...Middleton uses the best at what they do and if they say PASS on all criteria, we believe we're "good to go."
So, folks, that's our scoop on testing concerns. We hope this helps you to make informed decisions when considering the purchase of our products.
Happy Trails 'Till We (Test) Meet Again,
Ken
